FOLKLORE

The folk ensemble “Bulgarka” was founded in the summer of 2003 in the city of Varna. Its folklore programmes feature between four and eight dancers, a singer and live accompaniment on bagpipe (gaida), drum (tapan), kaval, gadulka, accordion and more.

The repertoire of the “Bulgarka” ensemble is rich and colourful

The music-and-dance programmes are performed to the live accompaniment of instruments characteristic of Bulgaria. Since its founding, the “Bulgarka” ensemble can boast an enviable number of performances and appearances. All of its artists – dancers and musicians – have extensive experience in Bulgarian folk art. They are dancers, singers and musicians from renowned Bulgarian ensembles and orchestras.

Over the years the “Bulgarka” folk ensemble has established itself as one of the most sought-after groups for authentic wedding rituals and festive events across the country. With their incomparable energy the artists turn every appearance into a true spectacle – from the symbolic “dancing contest of the godparents” to sweeping, whirling horo dances that unite all the guests on the dance floor.

The rich folk costumes, carefully chosen from different ethnographic regions of Bulgaria, complete the visual splendour and carry everyone present into the spirit of Bulgarian traditions. Combining professionalism, passion and an individual approach to every programme, the ensemble creates an unforgettable atmosphere full of pride, emotion and pure folklore magic.
